This will be the first time Adams will compete on a national level, but he has competed in school and regional bees to help him prepare for the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The 91st Scripps National Spelling Bee was held at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland from May 29 to 31, 2018.

It took eight rounds of Bee action featuring its largest pool of spellers ever to whittle down the competition to the remaining spellers, who now have their chance to claim the grand prize: $40,000 cash, the Scripps trophy, trips to New York and Los Angeles for national television appearances and bragging rights as the nation’s best speller.

Congratulations to the 2018 winner, Karthik Nemmani!
